The joy of living alone: I can get up and waste all day sitting at my computer without having to see a single person.

that’s how I feel a lot of times. There’s a chili cook-off being put on by a group in my city, at one of the local pubs. I went there, paid for entry, and thanks to the noise (live band) and crowded tents I headed right for the exit and went home.

it’s a little more specific than that, for me. I can go to things like sporting events (Red Wings, Spartan football) with no issues. it’s when the noise level gets to the point of overload that I start getting jittery. and when the crowd is dense enough where I have trouble moving, it gets many times worse.

Noise and crowds do it to me too. My wife asked me to stop and pick up breakfast from the local grocery last weekend. They were having a farmer’s market in the parking lot (strike 1). One of the taco trucks that I had to walk past to get to the entrance had a generator that was extremely loud (strike 2). I finally got inside and they had some woman playing guitar and singing right next to the place where I had to put in the order (strike 3). My wife wasn’t familiar with the menu, so she asked me to call her and give her the options (strike 4). Then she just couldn’t keep it simple (really, a veggie omelet is a veggie omelet, right?). That was all I could take. I just about lost it on the phone with her. Then the large drink I ordered was more like a medium, there were way too many people in the store to comfortably browse while waiting for my order, there was a only one cook and she was moving suuuuppppeerrr sssslllllooooooww, the girl making the smoothies wouldn’t help and just sat on her ass when she wasn’t making smoothies, then they let my food sit for another four minutes while the cashier took other orders..... I was a really unhappy camper by the time I got home.
